Anthem by Ayn Rand
Equality 7-2521 lives in a future society where individualism is nonexistent and only that which is beneficial to the collective brotherhood is encouraged. Equality 7-2521 stumbles upon a subway tunnel from the Unmentionable Times and discovers "the power of the sky." This discovery is viewed as a hindrance to their society's carefully balanced equilibrium.
